UrbanCardGame is a group card game where you take turns to draw a card and perform the action (or answer the question) described on it.
Concept
UrbanCardGame is a card game for public spaces. There are four types of cards (plus several special cards): Question, Interaction, Movement, Action.
I designed it around 2021-2022, with an idea to create a game to be played specifically in public spaces, but which is also portable and easy to set up. You can play it among a group of friends in your own city, but it can also be used as a tourist activity, and some of the actions (and questions) are more stimulating and fun when it’s played in a city you’re not familiar with.
The idea has connections with placemaking, tactical urbanism, and urban play. It’s also inspired by my professional experience in tourism and orienteering sports.
Status and future plans
The game currently exists in design and in a prototype deck I made in 2022, although it hasn’t been tested in real life yet.
I plan to start producing the card depending on demand. Since I need a certain number of orders for production to be economical, I’ll be starting a crowdfunding campaign in the near future to gauge demand and to market the cards. I may also produce an app for the game as an alternative to physical cards.
